Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is essentially it is about how businesses, like Apex Engineering Solutions, take account of the economic, social and environmental impacts in the way it operates.

At Apex Engineering Solutions, we believe that the actions that we can take in day to day business can have an overall positive effect on society.
We do this by having socially responsible business practices and processes, and by encouraging socially responsible employees – those who believe the secret of living is giving.

Our CSR policies include:

  • Equality & Diversity Campaigning
  • SELF - Sustainable Employment Legacy Forum
  • Committed2Equality & the REC & Job Centre Plus Diversity Pledge
  • Age Positive Employer Champion
  • Our Charity of the Year
  • Volunteering with Timebank
  • The Environment (detailed below)
  • Caring about the Apex Engineering Solutions team
  • Working Mums
  • Work / Life Balance
  • Health & Fitness
  • Career Breaks

We are as a business committed to giving something back to society and we intend to continue improving our work in this area.

The Environment – Our Working Practice

Apex Engineering Solutions environmental policy states that The Directors and Management are committed to developing a culture of environmental awareness so that "green" attitudes become part of company’s way of life.

We believe that, in order to continue to conduct business in the future, companies need to make every effort to search for sustainable and renewable sources for products and services. Until these can be secured we have an obligation towards future generations to prevent misuse and abuse wherever possible.

We will do this by:

  • Responsible purchasing – assessing supplies and obtain eco-friendly options and encouraging suppliers to use recycled or renewable resources.
  • Managing energy – improving efficiency and reducing consumption.
  • Managing waste – encouraging staff to reduce waste levels, re-use and recycle materials whenever possible.
  • Raising awareness of "green" issues among staff, clients and contractors.

Compliance with relevant environmental legislation

Apex Engineering Solutions does not currently have any formal environmental accreditation, however we are committed to developing a culture of environmental awareness amongst our staff and suppliers. This includes the ongoing promotion of green issues, minimising pollution and waste, recycling etc.

We comply with all necessary and relevant legislation relating to green issues such as minimising pollution, effectively managing/reducing waste and water as well as an ongoing commitment to recycling and sustainable energy sources.

Pollution prevention

Apex Engineering Solutions does not produce any materials or products that emit air, water or land pollution, however we are committed to reducing pollution in other areas.  An example would be our policy towards corporate/business transport and the encouragement of staff to use public transport, car sharing etc.

Waste management

Apex Engineering Solutions does not produce hazardous waste.
We actively promote the reuse/recycling of products and materials, examples include:

  • Recycling bins for all non-confidential waste paper
  • Recycled paper use
  • Central co-ordinator who is responsible for reusing and reallocating stationary supplies where appropriate
  • Tight stock control on purchasing to avoid/eliminate excess waste

Energy efficiency:

Including conservation by energy saving measures – Apex Engineering Solution’s Management team is responsible for ensuring the effective use of energy and regularly monitors consumption to avoid excess waste and to conserve resources.
All computer screens have automatic switch off when shut down so they are not left on stand-by.

Reducing the environmental impact of goods and services consumed by the company

As mentioned above, all purchasing and stock control is managed and monitored centrally to ensure that resources are allocated effectively and to reduce waste and excess expenditure.
Recycling and reuse of materials is encouraged and carried out wherever feasible. For example - all paper is recycled.

All marketing material and products are made from recycled material – i.e. pens from plastic car parts, mouse mats from tyres and pencils from plastic cups.

Responsible purchasing

Assessing supplies and obtain eco-friendly options and encouraging suppliers to use recycled or renewable resources.

Communication of the policy to staff

Policy is communicated to all staff during their initial Induction Training programme and reinforcing the ‘environmental message’ to all our staff members.

Apex Engineering Solutions encourages staff to adopt a “green”, ethical and environmentally approach in all aspects of business.  This policy is contained within the employee handbook.

As we are a service orientated organisation not involved in production, it is very difficult to utilise natural resources. However one of the most successful campaigns run internally, is the promotion of the ‘bike to work’ campaign, whereby Apex Engineering Solutions promotes through financial support and fun, the use of staff cycling into work.
