OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are currently recruiting for an Automotive Design Draughtsman for a leading automotive manufacturer in the Sheffield area. Due to their continued success they are looking to add to their existing team to drive the business forward. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a business working with the latest technology within the automotive market.

Interested candidates must have demonstrable experience in production of 2D engineering drawings for complex mechanical components including machined, pressed and cast metal and Plastic components and moulded plastics components.

Responsibilities
•To be responsible for all issues relating to the production and control of 3D solid models and 2D drawings including compliance with engineering design standards.
•The implementation of Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s) relating to 3D and 2D models and drawings.
•The production of 2D drawings and 3D models for component manufacture
•The capture of manufacturing processes and the production and maintenance of Manufacturing Instruction documents. (Photographs of processes, written instructions, production of diagrams, component tables etc pulled together in Word documents)
•Be actively involved in production engineering activities, liaising with Operations personnel, to ensure that all designs can be manufactured in the most efficient and effective manner.
•Contribute to the design and development of jigs, fixtures and other workshop aids to ensure production operations are completed in an efficient and effective manner.
•Sourcing of technical components; Identifying potential suppliers; Liaison with component manufacturers and suppliers; Development of purchasing specification documentation
•Contribute to the design and development of new products. Development of CAD models; Selection of limits and fits for standard components; Definition of engineering tolerances appropriate for material and function.
•Production and maintenance of Bill of Materials
•Flexible working within the bounds of personal competency, on other engineering or business related task commensurate with the needs of the business.

Experience
•Experienced in the production of 2D engineering drawings for complex mechanical components including machined, pressed and cast metal and moulded plastic components
•Competent in producing engineering drawings including geometric tolerance to recognised industrial standards
•Skilled in the use of modern 2D and 3D CAD packages. (Currently uses Solid Edge for 3D modelling and 2D drafting).
•HNC qualified or above in a relevant discipline
•Self-motivated team player with strong communication skills able to work well under their own initiative.
•Must pride themselves on high quality work and attention to detail.
