OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Due to continual growth and increase in work load, we are currently recruiting for a Structural Engineer to join a very niche and extremely busy client in the York area who are involved in a range of bespoke projects across the globe. This is a rare opportunity to join the business and be part of an innovative and highly regarded business in their field.  Candidates must be degree qualified within Structural Engineering with demonstrable experience within the role post graduation. Ideally candidates will have experience across Architectural + Construction sectors, experience with Live Events/ Exhibitions would also be highly advantageous.

Successful candidates will be required to produce engineering solutions with supporting calculations and analysis.

Candidates who are Associated/ Chartered will be considered for higher salary brackets.

Role Description

  • Produce engineering solutions with supporting calculations and analysis.
  • Carry out hand or computational calculations for checking and scheme purposes.
  • Check engineering solutions and calculations.
  • Check drawings by others, ensuring their fitness for purpose.
  • Act as design lead on single and multi-disciplined projects as and when required.
  • Liaise with other members of the project team to achieve a coordinated engineering solution that meets the defined objectives.
  • Act as design representative at meetings with the internal project team and/or external clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.
  • Project cost control and effective management of project resources.
  • Ensure that quality and consistency of output (drawings, reports, calcs etc.) is always maintained.
  • Assist in the development of processes to improve efficiency and project delivery.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.

Qualifications/ Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing steelwork (gained in the UK)
  • Structural calculations / methodical problem-solving ability
  • Experience with Structural analysis software (preferably Autodesk Robot & Autodesk Nastran)
  • Experience in Technical drawing to BS 8888 or other professional standards
  • Drafting and modelling in Autodesk Inventor (gained in a working environment) (Desirable)
  • Checking the work of peers (designs, drawings, calcs, models etc.) ( Desirable)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
