‘We will do whatever we can to support the self-employed, just as we are putting our arms around every single employed person in the country’ – Boris Johnson
Later today Rishi Sunak is expected to unveil how the Government is going to support self-employed workers.
Last week Sunak unveiled ‘unprecedented’ measures to support staff who are paid through PAYE. This included 80% wage subsides for the staff being kept on by their employers. It is thought that the PM wants similar protections for the self-employed.
The Chancellor has said that drawing up support plans for the self-employed was ‘incredibly complicated’ due to their income being irregular.
Current indications are that the Chancellor will match the 80% pay being given to PAYE employers.
We will post updates as they happen.
