The Opportunity

An interesting and rare opportunity to join this specialist company that designs, manufactures and Installs structures for the entertainment Industry. They deliver exciting and innovative projects within the creative industries, from Olympic Cauldrons to TV sets, from giant artworks to amazing structures. End clients include Google, The BBC, The Brits, Amazon, Netflix, and even governments of rarely visited nations.

Their work can be seen around the world and falls into the following categories: large scale events, theatre and TV sets, ceremonies, art installations and architectural pavilions.

They are a multi disciplined manufacturing facility spread over 14,000Sqm of estate. They are based in four giant hangars that house engineering, fabrication, woodwork, finishing and a specialist manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce drawings that are suitable for manufacturing and installation purposes.
• Provide advanced design solutions on projects.
• Produce 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
• Check drawings by others, ensuring their fitness for purpose.
• Act as drafting lead on single and multi-disciplined projects as and when required.
• Liaise with other members of the project team to achieve a coordinated engineering solution that meets the defined objectives.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Provide technical support to the Production Team.
• Ensure that quality and consistency of output (drawings, models etc.) is always maintained.
• Assist in the development of processes to improve efficiency and project delivery.

The Person

• Qualified in a relevant engineering discipline / or proven industry experience.
• Understanding of the design process, and its associated documentation.
• Extensive knowledge of drafting standards and technical drawing.
• Extensive knowledge of designing and detailing with timber.
• Understanding of joinery and associated manufacturing processes.
• Extensive knowledge of designing and detailing structural steel and sheet metal.
• Knowledge of designing and detailing other(s) (GRP, machined components).
• Drafting and modelling in Autodesk Inventor or equivalent CAD package (gained in a working environment).
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
• Technical drawing to BS 8888 or other professional standards.
• Autodesk Vault, and / or Revit, and / or AutoCAD (gained in a working environment)
