OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

A fantastic new opportunity exists at this leading global Aerospace business. The role will involve carrying out a range of investigations on aerospace materials, aircraft parts and structures for all a range of programs.

The role is based within the Integration Laboratories in Bristol. The company specialises in aerostructure inspections and integrity and aerospace non-destructive testing. Due to its global presence with facilities in Europe, North America and Asia, they can provide worldwide services and a global solution to the industry needs.

With a unique range of NDT products and services, they are an end-to-end aerospace NDT provider. They offer a broad range of NDT and quality inspection equipment for quick and efficient analysis of structures, components and assembly. They also train and qualify personnel in all NDT methods, at all qualification levels, as well as provide inspections, consultancy and engineering services.

 

The Person

  • The successful candidate will possess strong laboratory experience within an aerospace setting. – Materials engineering background.
  • A good understanding of the characteristics of aerospace materials, properties, failure modes; surface treatments; corrosion, manufacturing principles & techniques.
  • The ability to interpret results and observations from laboratory techniques, including the use of digital imaging; surface profiling; optical microscopy; preparation of metallographic samples for microstructural analysis; hardness testing; scanning electron microscopy and EDX.
  • Excellent communication skills required and must be able to work in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Able to consolidate investigation findings, document the results clearly with excellent attention to detail and explain the results, conclusions and rationale to specialists and experts within the team and wider business areas.
  • The ability to work autonomously on site within a small team.
  • A Degree in Material Science or Metallurgy preferred
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or similar (complemented by laboratory experience in aerospace materials) considered.

 

Desirable but not essential

  • Specific experience of fractographic analysis / failure investigation.
  • Experience working in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory would be desirable.
