Build UK in talks to extend working hours for construction sites

Before the recent pandemic local planning authorities put restrictions on the hours that construction work could be carried out, This was to minimise noise and disruption for the people living nearby the construction sites.

However, since the lockdown, the construction industry has had to comply with the government guidelines for social distancing. To comply with this, and to meet deadline, longer site hours are needed.

The longer hours would enable work to continue in shift patterns, meaning less workers would be on site at any one time.

Build UK has confirmed that it is in talks with the Local Government Association to organise the extension of permitted working hours for construction sites across the UK.

Build UK have said that longer working hours, along with encouraging material suppliers to reopen, is one of their key focuses.
