Construction Sites to Reopen

It is still too soon for the UK lockdown measures to be relaxed but Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that he is ‘comfortable’ with some businesses reopening.

Even though the daily number of COVID-19 related deaths in the UK mean that the social distancing guidelines have to stay in place, Hancock was not opposed to building sites and hardware stores reopening as long as they followed the government’s social distancing guidelines.

Hardware company B&Q and house builders Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon have already announced plans to reopen and are asking staff to return to work.

‘The things that are restarting are things that we never required to close in the first place, but what the companies have been doing is working out how they can have safe working following the social distancing rules whilst people are at work…’ – Matt Hancock
