The construction market may be cooling. But M&E talent isn’t suddenly becoming easier to find.

That’s one of the most interesting messages coming from Gardiner & Theobald’s latest Autumn Market Update.
While workloads have softened and Tier 1 contractors are showing greater appetite for selected projects, 68% of respondents reported tightening MEP availability.
That distinction matters.

A more competitive construction market doesn’t necessarily mean there is suddenly a bigger pool of experienced Mechanical & Electrical people available to deliver projects.

In fact, G&T highlights MEP as the clearest capacity pinch point.
From what we see in recruitment, the challenge becomes even greater when employers need people with a particular combination of:
• Technical M&E experience
• Relevant sector or project history
• Management or supervisory capability
• Specialist competencies or authorisations
• Availability in a difficult location

And with significant investment continuing across energy, grid infrastructure, data centres, healthcare and other critical infrastructure, many of these sectors are ultimately competing for overlapping pools of M&E expertise.

For employers, the question may therefore be less:
“Can we find someone?”
and increasingly:
“Can we secure the right person when the project needs them?”

At Apex M&E Solutions, this is exactly where we focus — specialist M&E recruitment, particularly where the skills are scarce, the requirements are technical or the location makes recruitment difficult.

Are you seeing M&E availability tighten in your part of the market?
