OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Construction Estimator on behalf of a well-established maintenance and refurbishment contractor based in the South West.

Operating for over 20 years, they deliver projects across many sectors including Defence, Justice, Health and the private sector. Projects include commercial fit out, EWI, refurbishment, construction and planned works. The work is varied and will give great job satisfaction, along with valued experience.

Ideally this person will have prior experience with commercial build projects, including refurbishments and/or fit outs and be pro-active in their working style.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for estimating & managing all projects within the business, with projects ranging from 5k to 2.5million. The role would be a senior role within the business, and you would be joining a team of experienced managers with a view to collaborative project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Have full scope of all commercial duties on projects.
  • Run and manage the commercial aspects of all projects from initial estimating to final invoicing.
  • Compiling bids for work
  • Obtaining quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Collating detailed price lists of everything needed on each project
  • Clarifying the client’s needs and expectations
  • Reading drawings and taking measurements
  • Assessing and adhering to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements
  • Keeping up to date with inflation, exchange rates and projected timescale costs
  • Making visits to proposed construction sites
  • Liaising with others including pre-con managers, project managers and design teams
  • Completing work quality submissions
  • Preparing and submitting quotations for work.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Previous experience as an Estimator/Quantity Surveyor, ideally having worked on commercial build projects, refurbishments and/or fit outs.
  • Preferably, come from a degree background in Estimating/Quantity Surveying; however, we will also consider candidates who have progressed within a company to gain their estimating experience.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional JCT contracts.
  • Knowledge of NHF SoR.
  • Experienced in working for a Tier1 contractor (or similar).

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
