OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

Exciting and challenging opportunity to work for this leading national retail chain. As the Fire Engineer you will lead and support a wide range of fire safety requirements across the business; including robust Fire Risk Assessment action management, fire separation programmes, the fire door inspection changes, oversight of compliance processes, and also horizon scanning for legislative changes.

The Position

  • You will be responsible for passive and active fire protection model standards and to maintain Business unit design specifications leading continual improvement from governance change forums and delivery workstreams into property design standards, manuals, specifications, and details.
  • This role extends
  • cross all Business Unit Design standards in order to deliver lifecycle value, innovation, and step change into well-established governance forums.
  • This role is pivotal in leading compliance, commercial value, design standards, change initiatives within property coming from business units Risk, Safety, transformational and customer teams.
  • Take the lead role for identifying opportunities to drive compliance standards in this category. Commercial value and exploit lifecycle benefits within property governance.
  • Responsibility for converting business strategies, targets, compliance commitments and priorities into tangible outcomes within property.
  • Ensure quality and governance forums document and control delivery methods of how Property create, refurbish and replace end of life assets in a sustainable manner.
  • Optimise design details and processes for creating & maintaining the estate in a compliant position.
  • Create solutions to innovate and drive change in the design processes by continual improvement, collaboration and engagement, bringing a deep functional knowledge of legal obligations, design, materiality and construction delivery methods.
  • Engage Senior business and property leaders to deliver change initiatives, trials, concepts and new approaches as identified through existing model governance and improvement forums.

  • Possess strong leadership qualities to provide Independent and impartial guidance to property Executives in all design related improvements and opportunities.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of expertise to lead the multi- discipline property team, delivering co-ordinated design, construction methods and specifications.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert in areas of specialism and provide technical Leadership & expertise to the various change management forums.
  • Taking an active lead particularly in Property change governance and finance governance forums.
  • Be a visible leader in the delivery of the property compliance and remedial implementation plans that are in areas of personal responsibility.
  • Inspirational and passionate leader as well as technical subject matter expert and able to communicate at all levels to a non-technical audience in order to influence senior leaders in gaining buying to change initiatives.
