OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Following the acquisition of a new contract we are now recruiting a Mechanical Lead Hand to join our client, an established, leading manufacturer based north of York. This is a permanent role working on a days-based shift-pattern between Monday-Friday. In order to be considered for this role, applicants must be apprentice-trained and possess demonstrable supervisory or team leader experience in a Mechanical Engineering environment, including experience with hydraulics and pipework. In this role you will also be accountable for necessary manpower and equipment needed to build in line with delivery targets and will liaise with Supervisors with respect to workload and co-ordination with other team members. This role is ideal for someone looking to find long-term work in a challenging and interesting environment.

 

The shifts will rotate between the following:

Week 1 Monday – Thursday 0730 – 1730
Week 2 Tuesday – Friday 0730 – 1730

The 5th Day (Friday Week 1/ Monday Week 2) is available for overtime, paid at premium rates.

 

Role & Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of projects as scheduled and budgeted; and maintain high standards of quality
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards within the department.
  • Must be capable of studying specifications such as drawings, sketches or descriptions of part to be assembled and plan sequence of operations.
  • Ensure that the departments staff are carrying out risk assessments for all tasks and activities.
  • Must be competent in testing hydraulics and mechanical structures.
  • Complete all necessary documentation according to the requirements, [ timesheets, NCR’s ECN…etc. ]
  • Capable of working with limited supervision.
  • In the absence of the supervisor, supervise personnel in the shop.
  • Ensure job tasks are carried out safely using good working practices and targeting zero lost time accidents.

 

Candidate Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a medium to heavy engineering environment essential.
  • Good all-round experience with hydraulics assemblies, pipework, and general component assembly
  • Using a range of valves and pumps for each assembly
  • High pressure testing experience would be an advantage
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances and have excellent attention to detail
  • Must be confident working with and reading engineering drawings

 

Candidate Skills

  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Time-served apprentice trained Mechanical engineer
  • Excellent all-round assembly experience
  • Previous experience in a leader/supervisor role
