OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Commissioning Engineer on behalf of a bespoke electrical and mechanical engineering company who manage the complete mechanical engineering process including design, manufacture and commissioning. They mainly work within Water Utilities.

Operating over 35 years, they are a family owned organisation who have gained a reputable name within the industry for their high-quality work and excellent customer service.

They have a client base which boasts some of the biggest names in the engineering sector. Mainly working within the Waste Water and Clean Water industries they provide a range of services including surveying through to design, fabrication, installation and implementation.

Within the Systems Group, their core skills are PLC, HMI, SCADA, RTU, networking and data acquisition. With other expertise in the business covering instrumentation, telemetry, LV Assemblies and Electrical Installation.

The Systems Engineer will take ownership and be responsible for the full life cycle delivery of the project in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, striving for quality and customer satisfaction, with support from the Senior Systems Engineers.  The engineer will demonstrate technical aptitude in specialist projects (mainly within the UK Utilities Industry) and must have a committed and flexible ‘can do’ attitude.

This is a permanent position, based out of Reading, paying £52,416 – £58,968 per annum depending on experience. It is working Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm. 4pm finish on a Friday. Perks include Van & Fuel Card, private use of van, door to door travel, overtime, pension, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, training & development etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • Surveying & writing clear reports.
  • Production of detailed and professional functional design specifications (FDS) to a high quality.
  • Bespoke program development, configuration and modification of PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems.
  • Production and delivery of professional Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Customer facing FATs (CFAT) and SAT.
  • Production of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • On-site installation, testing, fault finding and commissioning.
  • Managing project related correspondence, plans, deliverables and documentation.
  • Aiding others with delivery of projects, and training.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Experienced in Industrial Automation (Specifically, Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic, FT View HMI), software design and implementation, with a sound knowledge of Process Control techniques.
  • Strong commissioning capabilities to ensure projects are delivered safely, ensuring there is minimal negative impact on the processes around you, whilst confirming the successful operation of new controls (site work may involve short periods away from home depending on your location).
  • Electrical awareness as you will be working in and around electrical panels and equipment.
  • Attention to detail to ensure documents are formatted correctly and all information is detailed, visualisations (e.g. HMI) is accurate and of a high professional quality and ensuring PLC code is well structured, labelled and functional.
  • Capable problem solver who is not afraid to drive resolutions to the expectations of the business and our clients, both technically and non-technically.
  • Effective communicator to liaise with colleagues and external clients / contractors in a polite, professional and courteous manner, providing necessary and timely information.
  • Good written English to produce structured documents that are professional and clear.
  • Able to self-manage effectively in order to take on projects and lead them to completion.
  • Comfortable working alone and in a team.
  • Computer literate / good IT skills.
  • Willing and able to train others.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
