The Opportunity

Our client is one of the UK’s leading independent building services companies. The group provides a range of specialist skills though their Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and Facilities services and offsite Modular Design & Construction businesses. Continued growth has created a new opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Estimator, to work unsupervised on Estimates from initial Tender stage through to adjudication. Assists the Estimating Manager and junior Estimating team at all stages of the estimate.

The Position

• To work with other Mechanical/Electrical Estimators, support personnel and supply chain to provide Tender cost submissions based on the most competitive prime cost.
• Successfully obtain the tender price from suppliers, wholesalers and subcontractors
• Visit site and interpret drawings to clarify what is required and assist in establishing the best cost effective solution
• Develop and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally
• Liaise internally to determine who are most favourable companies to approach for prices and performance
• Develop business relationships through networking with existing and potential clients, competitors and suppliers to understand the market, competition and opportunities
• Liaise internally and externally as required
• Participate in handover of successful bids to delivery team
• Conduct ethical and equitable business practice in line with these values
• Implement all relevant and appropriate company policies and procedures

The Person

• Able to measure quantities from drawings
• Undertake technical appraisals
• Good understanding of tender process and systems
• Demonstrate the ability to analyse drawings, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, product, cost and labour estimates
• Qualified to ONC in an Engineering discipline or appropriate relevant experience
• IT competent Person Specification
• Demonstrates a logical and numerate approach
• Able to demonstrate good communication and negotiating skills
• Varied experience of installation methods
• Able to demonstrate a collaborative and team based approach to the role
• Able to work to and achieve strict deadlines
