OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Project Manager on behalf of a bespoke electrical and mechanical engineering company who manage the complete mechanical engineering process including design, manufacture and commissioning. They mainly work within Water Utilities.

Operating over 35 years, they are a family owned organisation who have gained a reputable name within the industry for their high-quality work and excellent customer service.

They have a client base which boasts some of the biggest names in the engineering sector. Mainly working within the Waste Water and Clean Water industries they provide a range of services including surveying through to design, fabrication, installation and implementation.

The Project Manager will demonstrate good commercial aptitude in playing a pivotal role in delivering specialist projects (mainly within the UK Water Industry) with individual values ranging from c£10K to c£2M. A committed and flexible ‘can do’ attitude is essential to undertaking a multi-functional project management role to successfully deliver a variety of Mechanical schemes.

They will be responsible for the complete project and programme management of multiple MEICA projects across our client portfolio, working with other members of the project management group to conclude the works via the various multi-disciplined departments within the company which may or may not include sub-contracted labour as required.

This is a permanent position based out of Reading and it is working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The salary is paying £60k – £70k per annum depending on experience. Responsibilities

  • Project lifecycle management – Oversee mechanical projects from initial design and tendering through to commissioning and final client handover.
  • Initial project feasibility, survey, project scoping, estimation, design.
  • Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop project plans, including timelines, resources, and budgets, and communicate these plans to stakeholders.
  • Planning and purchasing materials / sub-contractors as required.
  • Planning resource availability, and skills requirements liaising with internal staff to secure multi-disciplined internal labour.
  • Budget and commercial control – Develop detailed project budgets, monitor costs in real-time using company reporting systems, and handle variations or change orders to maintain budgeted profitability.
  • Monitoring project budgets and assisting with data for commercial invoices.
  • Safety and compliance – Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations and the current client standards.
  • Review mechanical drawings and conduct quality control inspections to ensure compliance to standards.
  • Adhere to Companies Policies, Procedures & Legal Practices
  • Stakeholder communication – Act as primary point of contact for clients, providing regular transparent progress reports.
  • Adjusting projects priorities and milestones based upon the customer’s changing needs.
  • Providing regular feedback on operational issues / concerns to stakeholders and senior managers.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Experience delivering successful MEICA projects.
  • Time-served mechanical apprenticeship or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH safety certificates.
  • Experience managing CDM projects and CDM awareness.
  • Computer literate / good IT skills.
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills for managing supplier contracts.
  • Ability to work well with other teams within the company.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
